On Friday, a Denton County jury sentenced Siang Leng Thang, 19, of Flower Mound, to life in prison for the 2023 shooting death of Lewisville High School student Skylar Ashton Marquel Linson.
The deadly shooting occurred on September 20, 2023, shortly after 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Raising Cane’s, which is located in the 1000 block of West Main Street near Lewisville High School. Linson, a 17-year-old high school senior, was shot numerous times as he walked towards the eatery, according to police. He was taken to a local hospital and eventually died of his injuries.
Thang fled the scene after the shooting, but a Good Samaritan tracked him down and called authorities. Thang was captured shortly thereafter by Lewisville Police Department officers in the 1800 block of Trinity Mills Road along the President George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton.
According to authorities, Thang was a juvenile at the time of the incident and did not attend Lewisville High School. Investigators believe Thang and Linson knew each other and that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
According to a family friend, Thang traveled to Texas from Burma as a refugee when he was eight years old, and he and his family later became citizens of the United States.
