Christopher Whitt, 42, was charged with murder and placed into the Dallas County Jail on Friday morning.
The man wanted in connection with the murder of Keisha Hillard earlier this month in Mesquite has been apprehended, jail records confirmed Friday.
Christopher Whitt, 42, was booked into Dallas County Jail on a murder charge soon after 7 a.m. on Friday. His bail has not been set, and it was not immediately known whether he had an attorney.
Whitt’s arrest comes nearly two weeks after cops were summoned on October 12 for a welfare check at a home in the 2000 block of Avis Circle. Inside, they discovered Hillard, a 42-year-old mother of five, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police officials immediately declared that they sought the public’s assistance in locating Whitt, who they alleged had been in a long-term relationship with Hillard. They also had two children together: a 6-month-old and Whitt’s 3-year-old boy.
According to an arrest-warrant document obtained by The Dallas Morning News, Whitt dropped the children off at his father’s home in Pleasant Grove after the shooting and informed his father that he felt he had killed Hillard. His father then phoned Whitt’s sister, who initiated the first of multiple welfare checks.
According to the affidavit, Whitt’s sister met him in the parking lot of a restaurant later that night. Whitt informed her that he had a disagreement with Hillard because she was “acting gangster” and that she was upset because she thought Whitt “treated their children differently.”
Whitt also told his sister that he would never see her again and that he intended to turn off his phone and commit himself, according to the affidavit.
According to the police report, the 3-year-old told forensic interviewers that he witnessed the shooting and was so near to the gunfire that it injured his ears. He also informed Whitt’s sister, “My daddy shot Keisha.”
It was unclear how officers discovered Whitt, but a Mesquite police spokesperson said he was nabbed Thursday night in South Dallas.
