A Miami mother is charged with child abuse and neglect after police claim she assaulted her 9-year-old son and left her two younger children, including a 3-month-old baby, at home alone for hours.
According to the arrest record, 29-year-old Anni Gomez was arrested Saturday after City of Miami officers responded to accusations of child abuse at two different locations—one on Northwest 23rd Court and another at her apartment on Northwest 7th Street.
According to investigators, Gomez planned to buy tamales from a woman and then abruptly requested her to watch her children.
When the woman declined, Gomez allegedly left her 9-year-old son behind and fled the scene in an Uber.
The witness spotted injuries on the boy’s face, and after coaxing him to speak the truth, he revealed his mother “hits me on the head with her phone and beats me daily,” according to the report.
Police said the youngster was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was discovered to have a black eye, bruises, and scrapes on his face and torso.
Detectives also learned that Gomez’s two other children, aged 7 and 3 months, had been left alone in her apartment for several hours.
She was detained and placed at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
