The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has charged three men with attempted murder in connection with an alleged attack on a TriMet bus earlier this month.
The attack occurred soon before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at the junction of Southeast Stark Street and Southeast 142nd Avenue. Transit police were called to the site.
According to court documents, the altercation began when three suspects, brothers Greffy Tom (28), Rinson (27), and Audric Yesiki (33), attempted to board the bus.
After the bus driver informed the men—one of whom was smoking and another who appeared drunk—that they could not smoke on the bus, they debated in the entryway, causing a delay.
The victim, a 50-year-old male, allegedly shouted at the accused for the delay, and the suspects yelled back.
According to the bus driver, the victim “rushed towards” the suspects in the front of the bus and “attempted to shoo them off” before the suspects began striking him.
The driver and another witness said that after the victim fell to the ground, the suspects began kicking him, with at least one stomping on his face while using a handrail as leverage.
The attack was purportedly captured on security video from the bus.
The perpetrators left the bus following the incident, but were shortly apprehended by police.
According to court documents, the victim sustained “severe” face trauma, including many cuts and fractures, “massive” swelling of the skull, and a swollen and bleeding right eye. His hands were also injured and lacked fingernails.
The victim’s current state remains unknown.
