A man was detained on suspicion of various offenses and active warrants after discarding a stolen vehicle near Commerce Center Drive north of State Route 126 and fleeing on foot on Sunday evening, according to a California Highway Patrol official in the Newhall region.

The charges included having a stolen vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs, assaulting a peace officer, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer. Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, the public information officer of the CHP, stated in an email that the active arrest warrants included assault likely to result in grave bodily harm and attempted escape.

According to Burgos-Lopez’s statement, officers received a complaint at about 5:07 p.m. about a gold automobile moving at speeds over 100 mph on Interstate 5 near SR-126.

Officers located the suspect’s abandoned vehicle and investigated the area after receiving reports of a Hispanic guy running toward The Old Road on Henry Mayo Drive, according to Burgos-Lopez’s statement.

Los Angeles County Fire Department workers reported a suspect leaping over the fence at the fire station on Henry Mayo Drive and abandoning some goods in the parking area, according to the statement.

Officers rushed to the scene and found the man running on the grass field south of the fire station, according to the statement.

Officers kept the man, who had lacerations on his hands, while they investigated the event. When the vehicle was discovered to be stolen, the suspect was apprehended, according to the statement.

The statement claims that the subject grew belligerent with officers, firefighters, and paramedics before spitting on them.

Burgos-Lopez stated that the suspect was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment.
