Chicago police are warning of a number of work vehicle burglaries in the West Loop Gate, River North, Streeterville, Lincoln Park, Addison Lakeshire, and Gold Coast districts.
Police investigated multiple incidents between October 24 and October 29.
According to the Chicago Police Department, perpetrators in each case shattered the windows of work cars and took pricey instruments from inside. They cut the locks and entered through the sliding doors when they couldn’t get in the back.
The crimes took place in the morning, with the vehicles parked on the street and their owners occupied with construction work.
When confronted with a victim, one perpetrator brandished a black, short-barreled rifle at them.
Police characterized the offenders as two to four Black guys between the ages of 30 and 40, roughly 5-foot-8 to 6-foot-2, dressed all in black and occasionally wearing fluorescent work vests.
