Illinois State Police investigators detained a 29-year-old Chicago man less than a day after a road rage shooting on the Stevenson Expressway this week, according to officials.
Bowen Zhang is charged with attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection to the November 5 incident on northbound Interstate 55 near California Avenue, according to ISP.
According to the agency, a road rage confrontation on the expressway turned violent when Zhang fired multiple shots at the automobile, striking it several times. The other driver was unhurt and reported the gunshot later that day.
Within 24 hours of receiving the information, ISP special agents identified the gunman’s vehicle and Zhang as the alleged shooter, according to the agency’s news release. They detained Zhang on November 6.
During a detention hearing on Saturday, Judge James Costello ordered Zhang jailed pending trial, citing a public safety risk.
