The man who hit and killed an 18-year-old Las Vegas high school senior earlier this year could face up to two decades in prison.
On Monday, Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus sentenced 37-year-old Keenan Jackson to 8–20 years in prison, with 190 days of credit for time served.
Jackson was driving under the influence when he collided with McKenzie Scott on May 2 at Buffalo Drive, just steps from Arbor View High School. Scott was scheduled to graduate within days of the crash.
According to his arrest report, Jackson’s preliminary breath test resulted in a blood-alcohol level of 0.29, more than three times the Nevada legal limit of 0.08.
Jackson’s punishment means he will be eligible for parole after serving eight years. According to 8NewsNow investigators, the majority of DUI offenders sentenced to 8–20 years serve only the minimum.
The story will be updated.
