A man who went on a cross-town robbery spree while wearing an ankle monitor received a five-year sentence. His suspected accomplice, coincidentally, is at large after evading electronic surveillance while fighting the allegations.

Bryant Robinson, 22, pled guilty to four robberies in return for concurrent five-year sentences from Judge Shelley Sutker-Dermer, court records show.

Prosecutors said Robinson, Jerome Jackson, and at least two others started their two-hour rampage around 10 p.m. on November 1, 2024, at the 79th Street Red Line station, where they stole a victim’s Beats headphones.

Prosecutors said that after riding the Red Line north, the group mugged a 57-year-old man in the 4200 block of North Clarendon. He informed police that four men surrounded him while he walked, and Robinson searched his pockets for valuables. Robinson stole the man’s money, threw the billfold to the ground, and left, according to a Chicago police complaint.

The robbers also targeted a 26-year-old lady in the 3200 block of North Pine Grove. When her partner attempted to intercede, Robinson raised his shirt, revealing what seemed to be a handgun in his waistband, according to the complaint.

The team robbed a guy in the 600 block of West Waveland by grabbing his throat, dragging him between planters and parked automobiles, and forcing him to his knees, according to officials.

A Chicago police surveillance camera operator noticed four people who matched the suspects’ descriptions entering the Addison Red Line station shortly after. Officers moved in and arrested them. A pistol-shaped Taser was purportedly discovered on the crew.

Robinson was on electronic monitoring for an assault and obstruction charge at the time of the robberies. He must serve half of his sentence, with a predicted release date of April 30, 2027.

According to court documents, Jackson, whose actual name is Davaughn Credit, did not appear in court on November 7. Prosecutors filed an escape charge against him, and Judge Sutker-Dermer issued arrest warrants in the robbery cases, according to court records.

During his first court appearance last year, prosecutors asked Judge David Kelly to hold him in detention pending trial. However, Kelly, who has a statistically established reputation as the most defendant-friendly judge in the court’s pretrial division, sent him home on an ankle monitor.
