Two Allen County men are accused of kidnapping a man from his Fort Wayne apartment Sunday night and threatening to stab his wife and dog.
Austin and Dustin Smith, both 38, have been charged with kidnapping and criminal confinement. They are being held at the Allen County Jail.
According to court records obtained by 21Investigates, the victim reported to police that the suspects came to his door to inquire about a stolen wallet. They allegedly told the man to accompany them downstairs to an apartment, but he declined.
Austin Smith, who had a knife under his coat, informed the victim that he would stab his wife and dog, so he agreed, according to court filings. Dustin Smith allegedly carried a bat into the downstairs apartment.
According to court papers, the victim stated that queries regarding the stolen wallet continued, and he was made to remove his clothes. While he was in the apartment, the victim’s wife came looking for him.
According to court documents, the brothers allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and a bat before telling him to claim everything was fine. When the brothers entered another room, the victim was able to flee the flat wearing only a pair of “long johns.”
Security cameras caught the suspects going to the victim’s apartment, accompanying him into a downstairs unit, and the victim leaving the apartment without the clothing he had entered with.
