As the winter season progresses, the National Weather Service has issued another winter storm warning, revealing horrifying information about potential extreme weather. The alert warns the public of dangerous blizzard conditions, which will include severe winds, whiteout conditions, significant snowfall, and serious travel advice. If that wasn’t enough, the warning states that oncoming snow and wind might be exceedingly devastating.
National Weather Service Warns a Major Winter Storm Hitting the Northwest, Rockies, & Plains Could Include Dangerous Winds and Snowfall
Due to the potential severity of the weather conditions, officials are warning homeowners of possible home damage, power outages, and tree damage. As a result, it becomes prudent for citizens in potentially affected areas to monitor all weather updates and take all available safeguards.
On December 16, 2025, the National Weather Service Prediction Center’s X account issued a warning about a big oncoming winter storm that will reach the Northwest, Rockies, and Plains between that night and December 19. Because all three of those regions were mentioned in the alert, up to 18 states might be affected. Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, and Minnesota are among the states represented.
The NWS warned on X that the storm may cause intense and damaging winds of 50 to 70 miles of hour across the Northwest, Northern and Central Rockies, and Northern Plains. They do, however, caution that wind speeds may surpass 80 miles per hour in higher summits, particularly on their eastern slopes. As a result, the government issues a warning about “numerous power outages, scattered tree and roof damage, and dangerous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles.”
In addition to the potential for wind damage, the impacted states may face blizzard conditions. According to the warning, the Northern Plains may have enough snow and wind to generate whiteout conditions. They are also alerting residents that the lack of visibility may have an impact on individuals trying to move throughout the High Plains since it “will cause extremely hazardous travel” conditions.
Finally, the NWS warned that the Cascades and Northern Rockies could receive up to 36 inches of snow. That snowfall is anticipated to hit the region between December 16 and 19, 2025.
It is crucial to note that some of the states that could be impacted by these winter storm conditions may not experience the harsh conditions mentioned in the National Weather Service’s warning. They are all included here because they are in the locations mentioned in the warning, and their citizens should be aware of the potential conditions.
