The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a missing man was found dead Sunday.
According to Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten, Edward Good told him of a missing person identified as Terrance Jones on January 26. The next day, Jones’ sister contacted him and offered additional information about Jones’ last known location.
Deputies were dispatched to 28 North Commerce Street Extension, where they established contact with the homeowner. The homeowner informed deputies that she had not seen Jones since December.
Patten stated that the sheriff’s office later received another complaint about Jones, causing deputies to return to the scene on February 1. At that time, deputies were unable to contact the homeowner. While arriving, a patrol sergeant saw an open rear door at an abandoned house at 30 North Commerce Street Extension.
After detecting a strong odor inside the house, deputies proclaimed their presence and entered. Inside, deputies discovered a body wrapped in blankets in one of the rooms. The Adams County Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to the site.
Patten said the wallet found on the deceased had Terrance Jones’ identity. The Adams County Coroner took Jones’ body into custody and brought it to the Mississippi Crime Laboratory for further examination and determination of the cause of death.
“At this time, there are no obvious signs of foul play; however, a full forensic examination is still pending,” Patten stated.
Officials stated that the issue is currently being handled as a death investigation. “We wish the circumstances had been different, but we are grateful that Mr. Jones was found, since many missing people cases do not conclude with closure. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones as they mourn this tragic loss,” Patten stated.
The probe is still active and ongoing. No other information has been shared at this time.
