Grady County deputies working alongside the US Marshals Service detained two persons on Monday in connection with a violent fugitive investigation in Cairo.
Authorities said Navaris Benard Broomfield, 35, of Midway, Florida, and Ashley Marie Lewis, 39, of Cairo, were apprehended on February 2, 2026, in front of a property on 3rd Street Northeast.
Authorities wanted Broomfield in Tallahassee, Florida, due to allegations of aggravated violence with a deadly weapon, robbery, petit theft, and resisting a merchant. Investigators believe Broomfield plowed over a Dollar General employee with a van before fleeing the scene.
According to law authorities, Broomfield and Lewis attempted to avoid arrest by residing in their van in Cairo. U.S. Marshals were able to locate and confirm Broomfield’s whereabouts through investigation efforts, resulting in a peaceful arrest.
Investigators claim they found Broomfield in felony possession of synthetic narcotics, also known as “SALT,” during the arrest. Lewis was discovered in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Grady County Sheriff Earl Prince said the arrests send a strong message that violent offenders are not welcome in his county.
“Grady County is an excellent place to live, work, and visit, and I intend to keep it that way,” Prince told the crowd. “If police authorities want you, don’t come here to hide. There is nowhere to flee.”
The investigation continues with both suspects still in custody.
