A firearm was found in a backpack at a West Valley school on Tuesday, according to police officials.
The Avondale Police Department said administrators at West Point High School received an anonymous tip on Feb. 3 regarding a 16-year-old student allegedly carrying a firearm. An unloaded handgun was discovered in the boy’s backpack, and the student was apprehended, according to authorities.
The teen was taken to a juvenile detention center and charged with firearms misconduct, according to authorities.
Police have not detected any threats to the institution or specific persons.
