A 33-year-old Massachusetts man has been granted parole for killing a man in Waltham when he was 18.
On October 2, 2012, Shaquan Jacobs pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Middlesex Superior Court and was sentenced to life in prison with the chance of parole.
Prior to the heist on September 30, 2010, Jacobs, Wallace Duarte, and Benjamin Peirce went to the Dollar Store in Waltham to get supplies for the crime. The guys, including Daniel Louis, then obtained a firearm, according to the Massachusetts Parole Board.
The group initially attempted to rob a house but were unsuccessful. Peirce claimed Adam Coveney sold Percocet and proposed robbing him instead.
On September 30, 2010, about 11 p.m., Jacobs, Duarte, Peirce, and Louis robbed and beat Coveney, who was 29 years old. The objective was to terrify Coveney with the gun, but Louis shot and murdered him during the robbery.
Following the killing, Jacobs concealed a handgun in his backyard.
Jacobs has been detained for fifteen years. During this time, I received a BA from Tufts, invested in my recovery, and finished several programs, including the NEADS program. He also separated from his gang in 2018, according to the parole board.
“Mr. Jacobs has a significant support system and a re-entry plan to assist him with successful re-entry into the community,” the parole board stated, adding that his mother and several community people spoke in favor of release.
The board unanimously decided to award parole. He will initially have to serve six months in a lower-security facility.
