A Jamaican national was sentenced last week to 27 months in prison for partaking in a scam that resulted in an elderly Arizona man losing $480,000.
Deeno Jackson, 27, was recently sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, according to the United States Attorney’s Office in Arizona.
Prosecutors said Jackson was part of a plot to conspiracy elderly seniors through a lottery scheme.
According to court records, the family of an 84-year-old Tucson resident contacted the FBI that the elderly man had been duped into donating a large sum of money after being told he had won the “American Senior Citizen’s Award Contest.”
The victim was apparently told he had won $3 million and was urged to pay fees before claiming the prize.
Jackson will be placed on supervised release for three years following his jail sentence and required to pay $74,530 in restitution.
