A convicted felon in the District was sentenced to three years in prison for illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia, 29-year-old John Calvin Harris was sentenced on Thursday for unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, as well as possession with intent to distribute amphetamine and cocaine.
Harris will have to serve an extra three years of supervised release after his prison sentence.
According to court documents, on June 30, 2025, Metropolitan Police Department officers were patrolling the 4000 block of Minnesota Ave. NE when they noticed Harris sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked car. Harris was wanted on an active warrant in Maryland at the time.
When police arrested Harris, they found a loaded gun in the front of his jeans. They examined the car and discovered three containers containing over 45 grams of cocaine, as well as a fourth container with over 30 grams of amphetamine.
Harris was convicted in 2023 of possessing oxycodone with the intent to distribute.
