Man Sentenced To 17 Years In Prison For Forest Acres Shooting

A Midlands man will serve more than a decade in prison for a shooting incident.

Ty’Quan Rashad Kelly pled guilty on Thursday to attempted murder, unlawful possession of a machine gun, and possession of a handgun by persons convicted of certain crimes.

Kelly’s girlfriend and her mother got into an argument on February 3, 2025, while the mother was driving him home.

According to officials, as Kelly exited the truck, he pulled out a handgun with an extended magazine and modifications that allowed it to fire automatically.

He fired multiple shots into the automobile through the back window, two of which damaged the driver’s headrest but missed the victim.

Following the incident, the Forest Acres Police Department went to Kelly’s house, and Kelly leaped from a second-story window to avoid arrest. Officers apprehended him.

This incident resulted in the lockdown of four local schools.

The victims recognized the handgun used in the shooting, which detectives discovered had been stolen in Lexington County.

Kelly, who was already out on bond for previous offenses, was also linked to the 2023 mass shooting at Meadowlake Park, which injured nine.

Despite facing many gun and drug accusations, Kelly was released on bond before his most recent arrest.

A judge sentenced Kelly to 17 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
