3 people arrested after bullet shatters woman’s car window during violent shootout in HeadPinz parking lot

Three people have been taken into custody after an investigation into a shooting that took place Saturday night at a HeadPinz in Lee County.

According to Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, deputies arrived at the HeadPinz on Global Parkway around 9:57 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was already in the area for unrelated reasons, but he arrived quickly and discovered shell casings in the parking lot after hearing gunfire.

Marceno stated that a woman who was leaving her employment at the time of the shooting was driving through the parking lot when a bullet cracked the passenger-side window. The bullet barely missed the woman and struck her dashboard.

Marceno stated that after an investigation, deputies discovered that the shooting began as an incident between two separate groups who had “beef.”

According to Marceno, shots were fired into the air, and shortly after, a white automobile entered the parking lot, firing shots from the passenger-side window.

The car’s driver was identified as Javien Cadillac Perez, 19 years old. The gunman, who was in the passenger seat, was identified as Brian Cortes-Esquivel, 18, and arrested by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Marceno said a third person was arrested for hiding and altering guns, one of which may have been used in the shooting.

According to Marceno, deputies executed a residence search warrant in Bonita Springs and discovered three weapons in the custody of 19-year-old Adrian Ruiz.

Marceno stated that all three individuals have several prior criminal charges. Additional suspects are still being sought.”Talk to your children,” Marceno said. “These are children making life-altering decisions.”

Perez is charged with shooting into an inhabited vehicle.

Cortes-Esquivel is charged with shooting at an inhabited car, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, firing a weapon in public, destroying or injuring an electronic monitoring device, and possession of marijuana.

Ruiz is charged with accessory after the fact, resisting arrest without violence, possessing an altered handgun, and possessing a weapon as a criminal.

The Headpinz squad told Gulf Coast News that they are trained for active shooter situations. Jacob Elliott, Headpinz’s marketing director, expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s fast efforts.

“No one ever thought something like, something like this could happen,” Headpinz Marketing Director Jacob Elliott said. “Luckily, we had the staff training in place. We had security in place to deal with something like this.”
