Man apprehended for attempted murder after Thornton police chase

Thornton Police Department officers apprehended a man on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday after he led them on a chase.

According to a Thornton Police Department press release issued Friday, Ismael Barajas Aguilar, 39, is charged with attempted murder, assault, domestic violence, and resisting arrest after reportedly shooting a lady in an apartment near the 9700 block of Pearl Street on February 5.

According to the release, the woman transported herself to a local hospital around 1:30 p.m. that day after receiving a gunshot wound. Investigators subsequently acquired an arrest warrant for Barajas Aguilar, who was located approximately at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday near West 84th Avenue and Huron Street.

According to the announcement, officers initially attempted to stop Barajas Aguilar as he drove toward Gale Boulevard. The man did not stop, prompting a police chase.

According to the statement, after using a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to halt the guy at the Thornton Parkway on-ramp to Interstate 25 southbound, Barajas Aguilar attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by authorities. He was then transported to the Adams County Jail.
