A would-be thief’s golden ticket to pricey lawn care gear inside a landscaper’s vehicle became a ticket to jail when he found himself stuck inside.
Nercy Toledo’s doorbell camera captured the attempted theft in front of her Hialeah, Florida, house on Wednesday afternoon, while landscapers were at work. The suspect, Dean Young, 26, slipped into the rear of a landscaper’s van.
“Car pulls up in the middle of the street, gets into his truck, tries to steal his stuff,” Toledo said.
Without understanding anything was wrong, the gardener locked his van, trapping Young inside.
“The truck owner proceeded to secure his vehicle, but the lock shuts all doors, including the back. “So, he locked him in,” Toledo explained.
To release himself, the suspect began kicking and beating the van’s doors.
“Help me!” he exclaimed.
However, the landscaper kept Young locked up until Hialeah police officers came and apprehended the would-be thief.
“The Hialeah Police Department was ecstatic because this is great. “They told me this was the best arrest they’d ever made,” Toledo said.
The gardener claims he was hard at work when he hit the lock button on his keys, a practice he developed after his van was burglarized previously. He says he’s simply glad no one was hurt and that his truck only sustained minimal damage.
Young is charged with attempted burglary and criminal mischief and is being held without bond.
