Indiana Weather Alert: 2–4 Inches of Snow to Disrupt Travel Through Thursday

Indiana’s pleasant February air seems almost like spring this morning, but wet pavement and fluctuating temps may cause slick areas by midweek. Drivers who leave after 9 a.m. will see dark skies and a damp breeze, with rain chances increasing and another round of colder air forming behind them.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, highs will reach near 59 degrees today, with patchy fog early and south winds gusting up to 20 mph. Scattered showers begin around 2 a.m. Wednesday, with rain chances increasing to 60 percent by Thursday as a stronger system sweeps over the Midwest.

Roads in Marion, Hamilton, and Johnson counties remain mostly wet today, but temperatures in the 40s Wednesday night could cause isolated slick bridges. Flash freezing becomes a problem this time of year when midday melt refreezes after dark. If you’re going on I-65, I-70, or I-465 late Wednesday, allow additional time.

Rain is forecast to continue Thursday, with highs reaching 66 before cooler air arrives Thursday night. Lows fall into the lower 40s, and by Friday, temperatures are closer to seasonal norms of 51 under sunny skies. A minor rain-snow mix is still likely Saturday afternoon, with highs hovering around 45.

The larger 6- to 10- day forecast predicts above-normal temperatures returning to Indiana by early next week. That indicates a warmer trend from Monday to Saturday, with greater hints of spring warmth developing. Traveling later this week? Observe any changes in road conditions and share your observations from throughout central Indiana.
