A Miami woman is in jail after police say she hit her 7-year-old son, who has autism.
Kelly Michel, 27, appeared in bond court following her arrest on a single count of child abuse without substantial bodily harm. A judge ordered her not to communicate with her son, either directly or indirectly.
According to the National Women’s Shelter Network website, Michel is the organization’s assistant director.
According to court documents, the kid informed police that “the defendant hit him on his face with a belt.”
Detectives discovered multiple obvious injuries, including a red dot bruise in the boy’s right eye, a bruise extending from his right cheek to behind his right ear, line marks on his left arm, and a bruise below his knees.
Investigators said the alleged abuse occurred Tuesday, following an incident at the boy’s school. Officers were told by school personnel that the child kissed another pupil on the face after the classmate fell, claiming he wanted to make him feel better. Teachers said they alerted Michel about the event.
Michel’s bond was set at $2,500.
