Chicago man sentenced to prison after $1.5 Million SNAP fraud scheme: prosecutors

A Chicago man fraudulently obtained over $1.5 million in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments and has been sentenced to more than four years in prison, according to federal officials.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, David Quinones, 45, provided SNAP recipients with cash or other products in exchange for access to their Link cards between 2018 and 2023.

According to prosecutors, Quinones used the cards to buy products at authorized retail establishments while falsely claiming to be the authorized user.

He eventually resold the majority of the goods and retained the cash, according to officials.

Quinones used over 1,200 cards and defrauded the United States Department of Agriculture out of $1,554,804 in SNAP benefits, according to authorities.

Last year, Quinones pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges.

On March 9, he was sentenced to four years and four months in jail and forced to repay $1,554,804 in reparations.
