Man sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to Norfolk shooting in 2025

A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in a fatal shooting from 2025 on Friday, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

On January 15, 2025, at around 11 p.m., Lamont Whitaker, 25, and his girlfriend were driving home after spending the evening at a shooting range and having dinner. The couple began shouting in the car and continued to argue until they reached the front door of the property on Green Leaf Drive.

While walking near the street, 23-year-old Miyett Antwione Little Jr. overheard the argument and approached Whitaker. Whitaker shot Little ten times following a brief talk. Whitaker then called 911, claimed to be the shooter, and was held when authorities arrived.

On November 6, Whitaker agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder and face a sentence of up to 21 years and four months. The Commonwealth agreed to drop an additional charge of employing a firearm in the commission of murder. Judge Joseph C. Lindsey accepted the arrangement, finding Whitaker guilty, and scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 13, 2026.

Lindsey sentenced Whitaker to 20 years in jail and suspended another 20 years on the condition that he complete 10 years of uniform good behavior and supervised probation after being released.

“No matter what Mr. Whitaker’s excuses, he had no excuse to kill Mr. Little, who was serving as a Good Samaritan,” said Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “Once again, we see that the introduction of a gun into a tense situation has led to unnecessary death for Mr. Little, unnecessary grieving for his family, and necessary imprisonment for Mr. Whitaker. My thoughts remain with the victim’s family, and my colleagues and I will continue to focus our efforts on accountability for people who kill in Norfolk.”
