Authorities say a woman is facing a federal drug charge after being discovered with hundreds of pounds of drugs in her vehicle.
According to court documents, a Texas Highway Patrol officer stopped Julie Juarez for speeding on an expressway on March 12.
According to the records, the trooper noticed signs of dishonesty as well as an inconsistent travel plan during Juarez’s trip to Dallas.
During the traffic check, a K-9 detected the stench of narcotics, according to officials. A search of the car revealed over 480 pounds of methamphetamine and 40 pounds of heroin in an aftermarket compartment.
According to the criminal complaint, Juarez obtained the narcotics in Mexico, crossed into Texas at the Roma Port of Entry, and was on his way to deliver them in Dallas.
“This is just one example of how DPS Troopers and their K-9 partners are keeping dangerous drugs out of Texas communities every day,” said the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Juarez has been charged with possession with intent to deliver at least 500 grams of methamphetamine. If convicted, she faces a required minimum of ten years in federal prison and a maximum of life in jail.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the case. Stephanie Smith-Burris, an assistant US attorney, is prosecuting.
