Two people have been apprehended after a man allegedly threw a glass bottle at a child, causing multiple injuries.
According to the Horry County Police Department, Rayquan Worthy, 27, and Kaitlynn Byrd, 26, both of Conway, were arrested on Tuesday.
Investigators claimed the incident was discovered after the Department of Social Services attended to Homewood Elementary School on February 10, where a kid was reported to have obvious injuries. The child initially told officials that his injuries were caused by a bicycle accident during a snowstorm.
However, a witness later informed investigators that Worthy became enraged and threw a glass bottle at the child after the latter unlocked a bedroom door. According to authorities, the bottle cracked, causing many cuts on the infant.
According to arrest warrants, Worthy is suspected of causing physical harm to the child, while Byrd is charged with neglecting to seek medical treatment.
Both have been charged with child maltreatment and are being held without bond at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
