Convicted felon on motorcycle arrested with brass knuckles

A Jacksonville man was detained after lying about his identity and the brass knuckles in his possession.

A deputy noticed a disabled red Honda motorcycle on County Road 225 near Wildwood around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Nearby was 32-year-old Daniel Scott Brogden, who said the motorcycle had broken down.

When asked why there was no license plate, Brogden explained that he had purchased the motorcycle a few days before. He was then held for impeding traffic and asked for his driver’s license. However, he refused to hand it over or reveal his identity, eventually giving a phony name, according to the report.

Brogden could not give a Social Security number or address to support his claim. Furthermore, the deputy discovered a match for the phony identity, and the driver’s license photo for this individual did not resemble Brogden. As a result, he was arrested, the newspaper stated.

A later search of his person turned up a wallet with his ID card inside. The deputy also discovered brass knuckles, which Brogden claimed were belt buckles, according to the report.

A review of Brogden’s criminal history revealed 14 felony guilty convictions, according to the study. He also had a Lake County warrant for possessing a weapon or ammunition as a convicted criminal, as well as tramadol and buprenorphine.

Brogden was detained on allegations of providing a false ID to a law enforcement officer and possessing a weapon or ammunition as a convicted felon. The North Carolina native was placed into the Sumter County Detention Center and held without bond. She also had a hold placed on her because of the Lake County warrant.
