An Eastlake man was sentenced to five years in prison following a Willoughby Police narcotics investigation back in 2025.
On March 12, Robert Murton, 43, of Eastlake, was sentenced to five years in prison on charges brought by the Willoughby and Mentor police departments, which included the following:
- Three counts of trafficking in drugs
- One count of possession of drugs for methamphetamine
- One count of possession of drugs for psilocybin
- One count of possession of criminal tools
- One count of resisting arrest
- One count of failure to comply
- One count of obstructing official business
- One count of falsification
From December 9, 2025, to December 18, 2025, investigators from the Willoughby Police Department made repeated controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Murton.
Officers stopped Murton on Lost Nation Road after he had made his final transaction.
According to police, Murton gave authorities a phony identity and refused to get out of the car during the stop. Officers stated that they physically removed him after a brief struggle.
During a search of his car, authorities discovered 15 grams of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, a digital scale, drug-packaging supplies, and US currency, including funds used for the controlled buy.
Officers later learned that he had an active felony arrest warrant from the Mentor Police Department.
He was brought into arrest and lodged into Lake County Jail.
Judge Patrick J. Condon condemned Murton to at least five years in prison last Thursday.
