South Carolina middle school student apprehended after shooting threat

A 12-year-old student has been charged after allegedly threatening to carry out a school shooting at Rosemary Middle School.

According to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated an investigation after receiving information that the student had posted on social media about plans to “shoot up the school.”

During the inquiry, authorities said they learned the juvenile had made a “kill list.”

The student was charged with making threats and then released to their parents. Investigators reported that no firearms were discovered in the child’s home.

Officials stated that the Georgetown County School District will handle disciplinary action. The student has been removed from school, and a larger police presence is expected as a precaution.

The investigation is underway.
