A woman who was convicted of stealing over $700,000 from her company is now going to prison.
The judge stated that the fraud has been going on for years. Jamie Grant acknowledged stealing from her previous job nearly two decades ago and continues to owe money.
Mark Oxman, outgoing president of Nephrology Associates of Dayton/Dayton Kidney, stated, “I believe justice was served today. “I sincerely wish it didn’t have to end this way.”
Oxman represented Dayton Kidney’s medical specialists in a Montgomery County courtroom on Wednesday. He described how the medical practice discovered a years-long scam from one of their own.
“When we discovered the first bogus charge, we believed there was a logical explanation. And then, when we began going through credit card and bank statements, we discovered more and more, realizing that this was not a simple matter,” Oxman explained.
Jamie Grant began working for Nephrology Associates of Ohio in 2019. Seven years later, she begs forgiveness after stealing thousands of dollars.
“I don’t know how genuine it was because I’m not sure that we’d be getting an apology had we not caught her at the last minute,” Oxman told reporters.
A Montgomery County judge sentenced her to 30 months in an Ohio prison and two years on court-supervised release. Grant was also forced to reimburse more than $700,000 to her employer.
However, Grant has already been convicted of theft. She pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge in Greene County in 2008 but has yet to repay the money.
A disheartening chapter was finally finished in court. Now, medical experts are attempting to move on and restore their reputation.
Oxman stated that they will be more responsible with finances and personnel.
“I plan to retire at the end of this year. It’s not the way I wanted to end, but I believe we’re all delighted to put this behind us,” Oxman added.
