Woman arrested with large quantity of drugs near gate in The Villages

A woman was arrested with a huge amount of drugs near a gate in The Villages.

Samantha Elder, 32, of Ocala, was driving a black SUV on Monday afternoon when she was pulled over near the Boone Gate on the Historic Side of The Villages for not wearing a seatbelt, according to an arrest record from the Lady Lake Police Department.

A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene of the traffic stop, and the dog alerted on the vehicle, indicating the presence of drugs.

A backpack discovered inside the vehicle included methamphetamine, marijuana, buprenorphine hydrochloride pills, two scales with drug residue, eight used syringes, and five glass pipes with drug residue. A second backpack included 22 grams of fentanyl, a scale with drug residue, and a used syringe. More tablets, another scale, and another glass pipe were discovered dispersed throughout the SUV.

Elder was accompanied by a passenger who denied knowing anything about the narcotics or drug paraphernalia.

Elder was arrested on charges of fentanyl trafficking, narcotics possession, and drug paraphernalia.

She was placed into the Lake County Jail on a $218,500 bond.
