At around 1:40 a.m. on April 3, police responded to a report of a man forcing his way into a woman’s apartment and assaulting her along with another man inside.
By the time officers were notified, the suspect had already fled the scene on foot. Investigators determined that the suspect was the 19-year-old woman’s jealous ex-boyfriend.
As he attempted to enter through the back door, the woman tried to hold it shut. However, he punched through the glass, reached inside, and unlocked the door.
Despite cutting himself on the broken glass, he entered and immediately tried to confront the man who was with her. The woman stepped in between them, but the suspect grabbed her and shoved her into a wall.
He then began fighting with the other man, with the altercation moving from the kitchen into a bathroom before the suspect eventually left.
Police noted that the suspect’s blood was visible on the floor in multiple rooms. The 22-year-old man suffered a facial injury but chose not to press charges.
The woman, shaken by the incident and frustrated that police had not located her ex-boyfriend, said she did not feel safe staying in the apartment that night.
Officers took her to the police station so she could arrange a ride, as her phone was not working. Later that afternoon, she reported receiving threatening text messages from the suspect, along with a CashApp message where he sent her $1 and wrote, “I’ll be dead by tonight.”
He also said he would show her what she truly meant to him, claimed he was writing his “last words,” and stated he would rather die than go to jail. He included an apology for what he had done.
Although the woman blocked him, he continued contacting her using a different phone number. Police attempted to reach the suspect by phone but were unsuccessful. He is currently wanted on charges of aggravated burglary and assault.
OVI: Euclid Heights Boulevard
At about 3:45 a.m. on April 5, police responded to Euclid Heights Boulevard at Beechwood Road after receiving complaints about a stationary Chevrolet Traverse playing loud music.
Strobe lights were flashing inside the vehicle.
Officers discovered a woman inside the SUV, unconscious. She smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes.
When officers instructed her to exit the vehicle, she was unable to stand without assistance. Disoriented, she believed she was on Taylor Road. The 40-year-old woman failed field sobriety tests and officers arrested her for OVI.
Later, when asked where she had been driving from, she responded, “I don’t know.” She said she was heading home.
She denied drinking alcohol, but when asked what she had been consuming, she answered, “Wine.”
When asked where she had been drinking, she replied, “Painesville.”
Police described her as cooperative but noted that her emotions shifted frequently, adding that she would begin crying every few minutes. Officers also charged her with impeding traffic and possessing an open container of alcohol in her purse.
Criminal damaging: Greyton Road
At about 7:50 a.m. on April 8, a 61-year-old woman reported that when she attempted to start a vehicle parked in her driveway—one that belongs to her boss—she discovered someone had smashed its rear window with a rock.
Officers found the rock resting on the vehicle’s trunk. She also noticed that another rock had been thrown through a side window of her home near the driveway.
Police found this second rock underneath the vehicle. Nothing was taken from the vehicle, which remained locked. Police are continuing to investigate.
Warrant arrest: Mayfield Road
At approximately 10:25 a.m. on April 8, police were dispatched to Fraiche Brunch Bar, 3954 Mayfield Road.
At the scene, a man asked for food and said he had just been released from prison.
An employee told him to wait a few minutes, but the man responded that he would start robbing people.
The 44-year-old man then left the location.
Officers later located him at the intersection of Noble and Montevista roads.
Police banned him from returning to the brunch bar and noted that he was wanted on several warrants in other cities.
Two of those warrants were issued by Shaker Heights police for failure to appear in court on theft charges. Police arrested the man and turned him over to SHPD officers.
