N.J. man apprehended at apartment complex after alleged attack

A New Jersey man was taken into custody at an apartment complex in Wildwood for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and brother.

Kevin Astudillo, 31, is charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery after being arrested around 6 a.m. Saturday at The Wilds at Trailwinds Village, according to a Wildwood Police Department arrest report.

Astudillo, his girlfriend, and his brother went drinking in Orlando. They were driving back to Wildwood in the girlfriend’s Tesla Model 3 with New Jersey license plates when she and Astudillo got into a verbal argument. Astudillo began punching her in the face, and she attempted to defend herself. The brother attempted to interfere and defend the woman, but Astudillo hit him in the face and began choking him. The girlfriend asked Astudillo to stop, but he started “swearing and yelling” at her. He choked the woman till she became unconscious. They returned to the Wildwood flat, when Astudillo hit the woman across the face. Police were dispatched to the apartment complex following a 911 hangup call. Astudillo’s fiancée and brother both described him as a “abusive” person who has gotten violent with them previously.

Police discovered Astudillo naked in the shower. He minimized the incident, calling it a “scuffle.” He was identified via his New Jersey driver’s licence.

He was brought into arrest and placed into the Sumter County Detention Center. The bond was set at $16,500.
