The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the woman who died in a two-vehicle crash that injured three others in Marrero on Friday.
Josephine Melanson, 86, of Marrero, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash occurred shortly after noon at the intersection of Barataria Boulevard and Eighth Street.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Deputies said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on Barataria when it collided with a Chevrolet Malibu that was on 8th Street and attempted to cross Barataria, according to Sgt. Brandon Veal, a department spokesperson.
Melanson was one of two passengers in the Malibu. Emergency crews transported the Malibu’s driver, the other passenger, and the Jeep’s driver to a hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, Veal said.
Authorities have not issued any citations related to the crash as of Monday. Officials also confirmed that toxicology tests are currently underway.
