DUI suspect detained after crashing into pickup truck on U.S. 301

A Tampa woman was detained for driving under the influence after colliding with another vehicle on U.S. 301.

At 5:20 p.m., a deputy responded to a crash involving 24-year-old Dorianis Ortiz Santana at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 738 in Bushnell. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest report on Saturday.

The other driver stated that she was driving south on US 301 in a silver Toyota Camry. As she neared County Road 673, she witnessed a white Ram pickup truck enter the intersection and smash with her passenger-side doors, according to the report.

Other deputies on the scene assumed Ortiz-Santana was intoxicated owing to the odor of alcohol on her person, bloodshot watery eyes, and slurred speech. The newly on-scene deputy went to interview her, according to the report.

Ortiz Santana reported that she was at a stop sign on County Road 673 when two vehicles drove by. She then drove onto U.S. 301, not seeing the other driver, and collided with their vehicle. During this chat, she continued to show signs of impairment and was shaky on her feet, according to the report.

She subsequently agreed to engage in field sobriety tests. Her performance, which included trouble with balance and an inability to follow instructions, prompted the deputy to believe she was under the influence. She eventually supplied breath samples containing 0.05 and 0.046 blood alcohol concentrations.

Ortiz Santana was arrested for DUI and lodged into the Sumter County Detention Center. The Puerto Rican was released after posting a $500 bond.
