A man is facing a federal narcotics charge after over 176 pounds of methamphetamine were recovered during a traffic check last month.
Robert William Galicia-Hernandez, 27, of Sinaloa, Mexico, was apprehended near the Utah-Arizona border on March 13, according to court records. During the stop, a K-9 officer sniffed the vehicle and detected illegal substances.
Officers searched Galicia-Hernandez’s automobile and allegedly discovered many packages of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The parcels together weighted around 176.6 pounds.
According to authorities, Galicia-Hernandez is in the United States unlawfully.
On Tuesday, a federal grand jury issued an indictment charging Galicia-Hernandez with possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
On April 20, he was set to appear in St. George for the first time on the allegations.
