CLEVELAND — A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect across parts of Northeast Ohio Friday morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in some areas, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
The advisory, issued early Friday, includes Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties and will remain in place until 11 a.m.
Forecasters warn that the thick fog could make travel hazardous during the morning commute, significantly reducing visibility for drivers across the region. Motorists should slow down, use headlights and maintain extra distance between vehicles.
Conditions will gradually improve later in the morning as the fog lifts, leading to mostly cloudy skies before clearing in the afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach the low 70s.
However, the calm weather will not last long. The NWS says showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop late Friday night into Saturday as a cold front approaches.
Some of these storms could turn strong to severe Saturday afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts, large hail and even a tornado or two.
Rain chances will stay high through Saturday, along with breezy conditions and gusty winds. Cooler air will move in behind the system, causing a sharp drop in temperatures by Saturday night.
By Sunday, highs will fall into the low 50s, with lingering showers still possible. Temperatures could dip near freezing Sunday night, with a slight chance of snow showers mixing in before conditions dry out early next week.
