Medina County Sheriff’s Office gets $27,000 grant for local crime reduction strategies

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office has secured a $27,000 grant through the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program to support efforts aimed at lowering violent crime across the county, Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Public Safety announced Thursday.

The award was part of a broader distribution in which 44 law enforcement agencies across 28 counties received a combined $3.4 million. Departments can use the funding for initiatives such as targeted patrols in high-crime areas, investigator overtime, and upgraded technology.

“There is no shortage of innovative ideas that our local law enforcement agencies are using to combat violent crime in their communities,” DeWine said in a news release. “Their work to implement crime-fighting technology and tactics is making Ohio safer.”

In the surrounding area, the Elyria Police Department received $40,500, while the North Olmsted Police Department in Cuyahoga County was awarded $76,500 to continue crime prevention efforts near Great Northern Mall.
