The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on suspicion of homicide after a body was discovered in a pond in West Terre Haute over the weekend.
Christopher Dixie, 42, was taken into custody late Tuesday night. He is the victim’s cousin, Victor Lee.
On Sunday, mushroom hunters in western Vigo County discovered Lee’s body. “Some people were mushroom hunting in western Vigo County when they came across what they thought was a human body,” stated Sheriff John Fell. “Deputies were called to the scene, and we were able to call DNR, who assisted with getting the body from the water.”
Following the finding, investigators worked tirelessly to pursue leads. “They’ve been working around the clock for the past 72 hours,” Fell explained. “They were able to follow various investigative leads using various investigative tools, interviews, and searches, and ultimately we were able to make an arrest in this homicide investigation.”
According to Fell, more information will not be released until the sheriff’s office receives the final autopsy ruling and the investigation is completed.
Dixie is being incarcerated at the Vigo County Jail.
