2 people burned and dog found dead after boat explosion near Callville Bay

Two people are recovering from “significant burn injuries” suffered in a boat explosion near Lake Mead on Sunday.

The Clark County Fire Department reports that incident occurred near Callville Bay shortly before 3:30 p.m. The fire broke out near the fuel dock in the 100 block of Callville Bay Road, according to officials.

According to CCFD officials, the fire was caused by a boat explosion while exiting the gasoline pump area. Officials reported that bystanders used extinguishers to control the fire, which was “extinguished” at 4:02 p.m. Two Officials claimed the fire left several with “significant” burns. One person was flown to a nearby hospital via helicopter for treatment, while another was brought by ambulance.

Officials also report that a dog was discovered dead on the boat.

The cause of the fire is believed to be under investigation. As of this report, fire officials had not supplied any new information.
