Lancaster County man found guilty of raping a teenager in 1997, DA says

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A jury has convicted a Lancaster County man of raping a teenager in 1997, in a case that stalled after the investigating officer assaulted the same victim just days later.

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office said Roberto Rosario, now 46, raped and violently attacked the then-16-year-old victim in December 1997.

The jury convicted Rosario, a resident of Caernarvon Township, on three felony charges in connection with the case.

At the time, Lancaster City Police Officer Andrew Selby was leading the investigation. However, authorities abandoned the case after Selby raped and sexually assaulted the same victim less than a week later.

In December 2022, Selby received a sentence of up to 57 years in prison after a jury convicted him of raping and sexually assaulting three underage girls years earlier.
