An early-morning armed robbery in Phoenix turned into a more-than-30-mile police pursuit that ended in Buckeye on Sunday, according to authorities. The suspect vehicle crashed near the Watson Road exit, leading to the apprehension of five adolescents. One of them was brought to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
According to Arizona’s Family, Phoenix police responded just after 1:30 a.m. to allegations of an armed robbery near 39th and Maryland avenues north of Bethany Home Road. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, many minors, some armed with firearms, stole stuff before fleeing in a white Jeep. Officers later found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled.
The pursuit continued west along Interstate 10 for more than 30 miles when the Jeep exited at Watson Road in Buckeye, where the chase came to an abrupt end.
After leaving the interstate, the Jeep reportedly collided with a parked automobile, and the suspects fled the scene until being apprehended a short distance later. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, multi-agency resources, like as state troopers and aviation units, are frequently employed on interstate pursuits to assist in the location of fleeing automobiles and limit risk to other motorists.
Authorities said the investigation is still underway as officers try to figure out what was taken during the robbery and which kids may face prosecution.
According to Shouse Law, armed robbery is one of Arizona’s most serious larceny offenses and can be tried as such under state law when a weapon is involved, resulting in felony exposure and substantial fines. Whether adolescents are tried in juvenile court or as adults is determined by their ages, prior histories, and prosecutorial decisions. The federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has examined Arizona’s procedures for moving serious cases to adult court.
Authorities informed Arizona’s Family that the investigation was still ongoing and that potential charges would be determined once it was completed. Anyone with knowledge regarding the event should call local law enforcement.
