Homicide investigating after woman suffers ‘catastrophic’ injuries in south Columbus shooting

A woman sustained “catastrophic” injuries in a shooting late Saturday night on the south side of Columbus.

Columbus police reported the shooting in the 1000 block of Oakwood Avenue at 9:55 p.m.

Officers found the victim at the scene with a gunshot wound. Because of the “catastrophic nature of the victim’s injuries,” the Columbus Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, according to a police press release.

As of Sunday morning, police said the woman remains hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities have not released her identity, and no suspect information is available at this time. Investigators continue working to determine what led to the shooting.
