AMARILLO, Texas — Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex that left two teenagers dead and injured 10 others early Saturday morning in Amarillo, Texas.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:58 a.m. to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex near Interstate 40.
Investigators said the gathering involved juveniles and young adults. It initially started at another location before moving to the apartment complex. Police said several individuals were asked to leave the original location, then later followed attendees to the complex. Authorities said they attempted to enter an apartment and opened fire.
Officials believe multiple weapons were used in the shooting, based on shell casings recovered in an alley near the complex. Officers also found a Glock 9mm handgun on a landing outside an apartment. However, investigators said they have not directly linked any weapons to the suspects.
Police said the shooting appears to have been targeted. Authorities believe the two persons of interest have some connection to the location and were known to at least one person at the gathering.
No arrests have been made, and investigators have not determined a motive.
The Amarillo Police Department has asked residents in the area to check doorbell and surveillance cameras for any unusual activity during the early morning hours and to submit any footage that could assist in the investigation.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and they will release additional details as they become available.
