Maurice Williams of Washington, D.C., won the top prize of $5 million in the Maryland Lottery’s $5,000,000 LUXE scratch-off after purchasing a ticket at a 7-Eleven in Hyattsville, MD.
According to MD Lottery, the victory occurred just days after his 59th birthday, and the matching number on the ticket was also 59. Williams first stopped at the store to cash in a $50 reward from the same game, then used the money to purchase the winning ticket.
After scanning the ticket to confirm the reward, Williams texted his mother to spread the news and then went to lottery headquarters to claim it. He stated that he intends to buy a house for his mother and take his time before making any more financial decisions. The 7-Eleven at 7206 Sheriff Road, which sold the ticket, will earn a $5,000 prize.
