A son allegedly shot and killed his father on Monday night in Oak Lawn, a southwest suburb.
Around 10:45 p.m., police officers responded to a shooting incident at a home in the 10400 block of South Austin Avenue.
According to Oak Lawn police, they discovered a man who had been shot inside the apartment, as well as a large-caliber gun. Paramedics transported the man to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he eventually died. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Ayed Mdanat, 50.
Officers arrested the suspect, later identified as the victim’s son, 18-year-old Sami Mdanat, near the scene of the crime.
Sami Mdanat was charged with first-degree murder for the death of his father.
Police have not revealed the circumstances behind the incident.
He has a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday.
