Three charged with aggravated murder after alleged ‘purposeful plan’ killing in Columbus

One person is dead and three suspects are in custody after a Saturday morning shooting on Columbus’ Far East Side that police say stemmed from a “purposeful plan” to kill the victim.

According to Columbus police, officers responded to a shooting around 8:20 a.m. on Elmsbury Court, just north of Broad Street and west of Interstate 270. When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, age, or gender while they work to notify next of kin.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead at 8:50 a.m.

Police arrested three people in connection with the shooting: 35-year-old Renan Castro-Gil, 19-year-old Jose Carlos-Martinez, and 18-year-old Carlos Figueroa-Castro.

Investigators said detectives uncovered a “purposeful plan” to kill the victim that was allegedly motivated by a relationship involving the victim and one of the suspects. However, police did not specify which suspect they believe had the relationship with the victim.

The three suspects were charged with aggravated murder and booked into the Franklin County Jail.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the homicide unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
