A Silver Spring woman won a $1 million top prize in a Maryland Lottery scratch-off game after turning a routine Powerball win into a life-changing reward.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the woman redeemed a $14 Powerball ticket at the 7-Eleven on 13401 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, then used some of her proceeds to buy another $20 scratch-off ticket. She used her gains to buy the scratch-off ticket, which eventually made her a billionaire.
On May 8, the winner and her spouse claimed their prize at lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The woman stated that she intends to utilize the proceeds to pay bills and revive her beauty supplies business. The 7-Eleven that sold the ticket will be awarded a $1,000 bonus.
