The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died during a search operation at Cooper’s Rock State Forest on Thursday, May 7.
Authorities identified the deceased as Andrew Zimmer, 39, of California.
Deputies arrived to the woodland at 1:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a suspected missing person.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation began after Zimmer’s abandoned vehicle was spotted in the vicinity.
Search and rescue teams assisted deputies in undertaking a thorough search of the surrounding woodland and steep terrain. Zimmer was later found and proclaimed deceased on the spot.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office claimed their investigation into the death was complete and found no foul play.
Officials also sent their sympathies to Zimmer’s family and friends.
